Who I am
Shameless Voices is written and operated by Nicole.Z. The site address is https://shamelessvoices.com. If you have a question about anything on this page, you can reach me through the contact page.
Information you give me
Email subscriptions
If you join the email list or download something like The Pause, you give me your email address and sometimes your first name. That information is stored with Kit (formerly ConvertKit), the service I use to send newsletters. I use it to send you writing, reflections, and occasional notes about what I am working on. I do not sell it, rent it, or share it with anyone else.
Every email I send has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. One click and you are off the list. You can also email me and I will remove you myself.
Contact forms
When you write to me through a form on this site, you send your name, your email address, and whatever you choose to tell me. That message comes to my inbox and is stored there. Submitting a form does not add you to the email list.
Some of what people send me is personal. I treat it that way. I do not publish anything you send without asking you first.
Comments
If commenting is open on a post and you leave one, your name, email address, and comment are stored by WordPress. Your name and comment are visible publicly. Your email address is not.
Information collected automatically
Analytics
This site uses Google Analytics to understand how people find and read it. It tells me things like which posts get read, roughly where visitors are located, and whether they arrived from search or social media. It is reported to me in aggregate. I cannot see who you are as an individual, and I do not try to.
If you would rather not be counted, Google offers a browser opt-out add-on. Most browsers also have privacy settings that block this kind of tracking.
Cookies
Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. This site uses them to keep things working, to remember your details if you leave a comment, and for the analytics described above. You can delete or block cookies in your browser settings. Some parts of the site may not work quite right if you do.
Spam filtering
Comments and form submissions are checked by Akismet, a spam filtering service. To do that, it receives the submitted information along with your IP address and browser details.
Hosting and embedded content
This site is hosted on WordPress, and the host keeps standard server logs that include visitor IP addresses. Some pages include content from other sites, such as embedded videos or the Kit signup form. Those services can collect information about you the same way they would if you visited them directly, and their own privacy policies apply.
How long information is kept
Email subscribers stay on the list until they unsubscribe or ask to be removed. Contact form messages stay in my inbox. Comments and their data are kept indefinitely so that follow-up replies still make sense.
Your choices
You can ask me what information I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it. Write to me through the contact page and I will take care of it. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR in Europe or the CCPA in California.
Children
This site is written for adults and is not directed at children under 13. I do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has sent me information, please let me know and I will delete it.
